British Royal Grey Horse Soldiers capture the Eagle during the English charge at Waterloo. The significance is overwhelming - never before had Napoleon's forces been beaten after 60 battles! The capture of the Eagle, the French standard, is the sign of defeat, but like the battle that continued to run for some time, there is an appearance of uncertainty, even disbelief by the horseman, who somewhat tenuously lifts the Eagle from the ground. |
